Meet John L. Durnie
Author of the Hunts trilogy (described as 'Line of Duty' meets 'Life on Mars' with the intense characterisation of 'The Wire' and 'True Detective'), gritty crime tales rooted in the stark realities of Hackney in the late 1980s.

Experience
The author spent twenty years in London and served in a variety of roles with the Metropolitan Police. His experiences there shape his writing which, as far as the law allows, is inspired by actual events.
Since leaving the police, he has worked in Environmental Health; as a professional golf coach; and, for the last ten years, has been an English and History teacher.
Personal
Married to Jill, a Deputy Headteacher, he has three sons - none of whom, thankfully, have followed him into the police.
Raised in Ayrshire (and then Argyll) on the west coast of Scotland, his dreams of playing professional football were hampered by a lack of ability. His second option of becoming an astronaut was stymied by not being American and his limited experience of flying fighter jets. Naturally, in his Met Police interview, he claimed he'd never wanted to do anything else.
Like Arran Cunningham (the flawed 'hero' of the Hunts trilogy) he is a committed supporter of Kilmarnock FC and they are responsible for all of his grumpy moods - except those caused by the never-ending frustrations of having to remember countless passwords and pin codes in order to survive modern life. Other sporting interests include rugby's Glasgow Warriors, the NFL's New York Giants, MLB's Toronto Blue Jays, and any sporting endeavour in which Scotland's national teams compete.
He loves to travel - particularly in Italy, Greece and Croatia - and hopes to convince Jill that a six-month odyssey across the United States in a RV would be a sensible retirement plan.
When he is not writing, he now splits his time between Perthshire (where he works) and his coastal home in Argyll.
